"Back Soon" Short Film Concepts (2021-2023)
Set in post-apocalyptic Coastal Maine, Beau waits in an abandoned house waiting for Valentine to return with food. Valentine though has been gone for weeks and Beau starts to lose hope that she'll ever return. Having run out of food completely, Beau decides to venture outside in the middle of a Maine winter in search of food, and his best friend. Beau must remember though, that he is not alone out there.
Zombie Concepts
For this story I wanted to make the zombies look sick and creepy, which I don't usually depict in my art so it was a challenge. You can see that at first my concepts were more exaggerated proportion wise, so it made the zombies look less scary and more cute. As my design process continued though, the zombie concepts started to look more the way I wanted. The zombies went from cute, to more bloody and scary.

Character Design
Beau and Valentine went through quite a few iterations before I settled on their current designs. I've included the first version of their designs (the character sheets with the yellow and pink backgrounds) and their current designs beneath that. The changes weren't drastic, but definitely needed. You can also see the different illustrations I've done in attempt to get their personalities down and how they interact with each other.

Environments
Back Soon is set in a post-apocalyptic coastal Maine. It was a challenge getting the charm of Maine, and the distinct visuals of an apocalypse, but through these illustrations I started to get the hang of what exactly I wanted the world of Back Soon to look like. Below you can see the vehicle one of the characters drives, as well as the various locations that are seen within the narrative.
